Server Maintenance Knowledge

Updated Time:2024-01-24  Views:20435

The normal operation and use of any application or website are inseparable from servers. However, how many people truly understand servers? How should servers be maintained on a daily basis?

1、Start by gaining a basic understanding and familiarity. Install system patch programs promptly, whether it's Windows or Linux. Any operating system has vulnerabilities, and timely patching to prevent intentional exploitation of vulnerabilities is one of the most crucial guarantees for server security.

2、For server security, it is essential to install a firewall. Firewalls have a good preventive effect against unauthorized access, but installing a firewall does not imply that the server is secure. After installing a firewall, it's necessary to configure it appropriately based on your network environment to achieve the optimal protection.

3、Viruses on the internet are rampant, requiring the installation of online antivirus software on network servers to control the spread of viruses. Simultaneously, when using network antivirus software, it's crucial to regularly or promptly update the antivirus software and automatically update the virus database with each update.

4、Close unnecessary services and ports during the installation of server operating systems. Some unnecessary services will start, occupying system resources and increasing security risks. For servers not used at all for a period, they can be entirely shut down. For servers to be used during this period, unnecessary services such as Telnet should also be turned off. Additionally, close unnecessary TCP ports.

5、Regularly back up the server to prevent unexpected system failures or accidental illegal operations by users. In addition to monthly backups of the entire system, weekly backups of modified data should also be performed. Meanwhile, important system files to be modified should be stored on different servers to promptly restore the system to normal in case of system crashes (usually due to hard disk errors).

6、Account and password protection is the first line of defense for server systems. Currently, most attacks on server systems on the Internet start with intercepting or guessing passwords. Once hackers gain access to the system, previous defense measures are almost useless. Therefore, managing the accounts and passwords of server system administrators is a crucial measure to ensure system security.

7、Monitor system logs by running a system log program. The system will record all user activities, including the latest login times, used accounts, and executed activities. The log program will generate reports regularly. By analyzing these reports, it's possible to identify any anomalies.
